Multi-foil insulation

Multi-foils are thermal insulation products that are often used in loft conversions or existing buildings where a high thermal insulation is required within a limited space. Recently performance standards of some multi-foil insulations have not been accepted by local authority building control departments. The disagreements appear to be over the method of testing the thermal performance of the material, and in such circumstances it can be difficult for clients to know who to turn to for an authoritative answer.

Whilst product manufacturers have vested interests in promoting their product, and statutory authorities may not reach consensus quickly enough to offer practical advice, architects can help with a range of 'cross-border' experience to guide clients and achieve the best outcomes for themselves, their buildings, end users and the environment.
