PETER TOMPKINS

Architect, RIBA

What do you love about being an architect?

I love working with clients to help them realise their aspirations, building is an inherently positive process because it represents an investment in the future.  I also enjoy working in a team with lots of different people from different walks of life, with different skills, outlooks and perspectives.

What made you choose architecture as a job?

I have always been interested in shaping the world around me from building dens as a child to re-arranging my bedroom furniture.  With an interest in both the technical subjects such as physics and the creative arts, choosing architecture as a profession was a way of combining these interests in a way that had a social purpose.

What do you do outside of work?

I mostly live and breath architecture but nothing is more important to me than my wife and three children.  With a young family, life is a constant adventure and it doesn't leave time for much else but I am also a trustee of a charity, have been a school governor and involved with the RIBA, serving as Chair of the Berskshire Society of architects.

ANNELIES RYGOLE

Architect, ARB

What do you love about being an architect?

I love exploring the value of good design, not just aesthetically but also practically and economically. Surprising clients with creative ideas and seeing them happy and thoroughly enjoying their house is very rewarding.

What made you choose architecture as a job?

Inspired by making a cardboard model during an art class when I was 8, I decided I wanted to become an architect.   I studied in Belgium and London and  gained experience in small and medium size practices with residential projects before starting up the architecture practice with Peter in 2005.

What do you do outside of work?

I am a mother of three and I believe passionately in the importance of a creative and inspiring environment for children’s development.  Based on my experience running workshops for children with the RIBA, I set up

‘Dream Make’ in 2019

What do you enjoy about working at EDGE ARCHITECTURE?

I'm passionate about the client's experience of working with us. The way we communicate with others ultimately determines the quality of our business and the fundamental glue that holds any relationship together is trust. Building trust and maintaining good client relationships is a key factor for me.

What is your experience of architecture?

I have worked with Peter and Annelies for 5 years, firstly as a client and then as a colleague. I find having seen both sides of the process allows me to fully understand things from the client's perspective. I understand that integrity is vital in building relationships and is the foundation upon which many other qualities for success are built.

What do you do outside of work?

When I am not working I love being outdoors. I always wanted to be a shepherdess and I love nothing more than a lazy afternoon picnic with my family amongst a field of sheep.
