STATUS BUILT
This small canoe store is carefully positioned within a long, narrow garden, providing direct access to the canal and towpath. Designed primarily for the storage of canoes and associated equipment, the simple gabled structure is raised on stilts to accommodate the potential flooding of the canal and riverside garden and minimise its impact on the landscape. The building is clad in treated plywood panels finished in subtly varied shades of green and blue, allowing it to blend naturally into its setting. A corrugated metal roof provides a robust and economical covering, reflecting the utilitarian character of traditional waterside structures. Though modest in scale, the building demonstrates how small architecture can create a strong sense of place through simplicity, materiality and craftsmanship.
