Urban Courtyard Housing Scheme Flanders
LOCATION FLANDERS BELGIUM
PROJECT TYPE INFILL DEVELOPMENT
CLIENT PROPERTY DEVELOPER
PROJECT STATUS BUILT
A contemporary eight-unit collective housing scheme in Flanders, designed for developer Groenstad to achieve high-density living without compromising privacy, daylight or amenity. The terraced roof forms step down with the natural topography, maximising solar gain to living spaces and private gardens while creating a distinctive architectural rhythm across the site.
Two secure east–west alleyways provide access to an underground car park, allowing each home to retain an individual front door and direct connection to private external spaces, fostering both security and neighbourly interaction. The project balances compact urban living with generous light-filled interiors and sheltered south-facing courtyards.
The development was realised in collaboration with Flemish architect Dirk De Meyer.

"My house has a very open and light feeling. The gated alleyway, with access to the front doors and courtyards, gives me a very secure feeling and encourages neighbourly interactions. I particularly enjoy my living room with the large glazed partition and the courtyard with south facing terrace.”
